October Goals

Life has thrown me quite a few curve balls in the past week (this one being the biggest). It's taken me a few days to recover and get my bearings again, but I'm ready to tackle October.

Goal Making

1. Find a job. Obviously. I live at home and have no bills, yes. But, I still don't have any money coming in--currently researching being a full time blogger… I can afford to picky for now, but when does that run out?
Need an event planner? Call me. (not kidding)

2. Make a schedule. Just bopping through the days and weeks is weird. Sleeping in past 6 AM is great and all, but feeling like I'm on vacation ALL THE TIME (when no one else is) is getting old. Don't get me wrong, I love the free time, I just need more things to fill the time. My brain can only take a few hours of job searching at a time!

3. Work Out. I'd like to say that I've been filling my free time with nothing but job searching and working out, but I'd be lying. In fact, the last thing I want to do right now is work out. I'm fickle like that. Last week I was writing about all the motivation to workout and now I can't get my butt to the gym. I really should be in the best shape of my life!

4. Don't Be TOO Hard on Myself. LOLOL easier said than done. I'm my own worst critic. I've redone my resume 100x and had no less than three breakdowns. I think I should have already found a job and it's only been a week (Josh was looking for 4 months).

5. Don't be Anxious. It's kind of weird how things happen, but ever since I was laid off, my anxiety has mostly disappeared. I can drink coffee without having panic attacks. (this is huge y'all) Of course I still worry about finding a job and having money, but it's not debilitating.

Sorry that all of these have to do with not having a job and looking for a new one. I promise I won't be this boring for the WHOLE month.

P.S. If you have any jobs tips, resume/cover letter tips feel free to send them my way!

  1. You definitely need to give yourself a break...I know you're anxious to find a new job but it will come, I promise! Don't burn yourself out either, looking for a new job. Time block your day out so you do some career searching, take a break, and then go back to it. Are you on LinkedIn, btw?

  2. Good luck with your goals! Do you have a portfolio? If you're particularly proud of some of your writing pieces, definitely make a content.ly profile - such a good way to showcase all of your work!

  4. I have a job and I still find it hard to get my butt to the gym. So don't feel bad! Hopefully you find a job really soon. Don't stress too much. Everything happens for a reason (or at least I believe it does). Maybe something better is coming your way. I would love to be a full time blogger and spend more time on my blog. Good luck with your goals this month!

  5. I know it's difficult not to be anxious but you will find something (even if it takes a little longer than anticipated). You really are in the best situation for finding a job (no rent!!!) so embrace it and spend time focusing on you (somedays that will mean the gym, other days it will mean blogging, and occasionally it will mean a netflix binge). Start a YOU project you haven't had time with in the past. Sending good vibes your way pretty lady <3

  14. Great goals and very focused! As a life coach, my clients work around specific goals, because that is such a powerful way to move forward in life. I do tell them not to forget to be compassionate with themselves and not to be too hard on themselves either. You've got this! Good luck with the job hunt!

  19. The job hunt is one of the worst things in the entire world. Whenever I was on the hunt, I constantly was worried and anxious. Try not to be too hard on yourself. It's the company's loss if they don't want you. You're amazing!

  21. I agree with Dana! It's important not to burn yourself out. The company definitely is missing out but something better will come your way. I love www.prepary.com and elanalyn.com where she has a "career advice" column. Lots of inspiration, useful tips, and positive vibes in those two sites! Good luck with the job search, I wish you all the best!

  22. It took me a long time to finally work out regularly. I feel like if I have any inkling that my life is in disarray, I dont want to better myself in any other way. Does that make sense?
Have you tried recruiting agencies? Most 'temp' agencies have a person that mostly works for companies find them full-timers (sometimes they hire you straight on, other times you work under the temp company for two or three months and then the actual company hires you on as permanent). And a lot of times, companies will solely use these agencies to fill their positions, so you never even see the ads or anything!
Also, I have moved so much in the past ten years - And had more than my fair share of job hunts. I think I finally found one that I'll be at for yearssss though :) But - if you want me to look at your resume, I can definitely do that!

  23. Event planning is my favorite! You should look into some non-profit organizations in your area. They usually need event coordinators. Or even look into your local convention and tourist bureau. I work as a sales coordinator at a hotel, but I get to plan cocktail receptions and other small events for VIPs and employees. You should totally look into your local hotels if you're interested in hospitality. These are some incredible goals, and I wish you the best of luck!

  25. I got fired four months ago and decided to take some time off. Now I volunteer everywhere I can and it is so much more fulfilling. But I am at a point now where I want to go back to work and applied for a job I REALLY wanted and was promptly rejected. I was so crushed! Job hunting is the worst!!
