Teeny Tiny Houses

Our society is based on more, more, and even more. Maybe that's why I find the whole "tiny house" movement so intriguing. That and, I've been watching Tiny House Nation (a lot) on FYI and I'm slightly obsessed. Obsessed in a weird, I could never do that but good for you type of way.

I actually watched this episode last night! They family in this tiny house has two small children!

All of the living is done in about 300-500 square feet (way smaller than my apartment). Most of the tiny house dwellers are families or couples, not single people! I'm still amazed at how four people can fit and function and not want to kill each other in barely any space.

This house is less 400 square feet!
I love to sit and daydream about living in one of these tiny houses: reducing my carbon footprint, being more eco friendly, and less materialistic. But, the reality of it: I'm already outgrowing my "tiny" apartment. The bathroom and lack of counter space in the bathroom and the kitchen drives me (and Josh) nuts.  For reference folks, my apartment is about 700-800 square feet.

If I could stay in a tiny house on a vacation, I'd definitely sign up for that. Otherwise, I'm not entirely sure I could do it full time.

Would/could you live in tiny house?

  1. I haven't heard of this show, but now I'm interested! Such a cute house, but no we have too much junk. I try so hard to get rid of stuff each year, but it just accumulates after a while. We are living with my parents and saving good money, we just feel like it's the best thing for us till we figure out where we want to permanently be!

  2. LOVE this show! I too have dreams of living tiny, but Arizona is really strict with their zoning laws. They actually have a tiny house caravan in Portland, OR that you can stay in.

  3. I really, really, really want to have a teeny tiny house. They're so cute and fun. If I can find a way to comfortable get both my kids in there, I'd be so down for one!
I'm going to have to check out this show. I'm in love already.

  4. I read about these tiny houses awhile back in some magazine and was fascinated by them too! I don't see how anyone with an actual job could live in one of these though. There wouldn't be room for all your work clothes. I think they'd be great for someone to live in for like a year while they write a book or something but other than that I just don't see how it's possible.

  5. It's so cute!! I move around all the time so basically only hold onto something if I can pack it in my car for when I take off again so I could do it by myself or with the bf, but small kids? That'd be a challenge. woof...
