Happy first day of October! Fall is my favorite season for multiple reasons, but mainly because it's the season of change. The leaves change, the weather get cooler, everyone seems to be in a better mood (myself included). Change can be super scary, but also really exciting and this October will be different than past Octobers.
On Tuesday, I got laid off from my job. It came out of nowhere, the position no longer exists--there was nothing I could do.
Now, basically everyone knows. I was honestly nervous to type that sentence because I feel like I have people cheering for me to fail.
I spent most of Tuesday sobbing and worrying about how I would continue to save money for all of my goals and dreams with no income. I was also really embarrassed. I did a good job, so why me? I woke up Wednesday with a major headache and puffy eyes, but was also filled with a sense of peace.
You see, I'm learning through this process that God's plan is way better than whatever I thought was going to happen. Infinitely better. I almost feel like He left it up to me to leave my job and when I didn't, He took matters into His own hands and gave me the kick in the butt that I needed.
Plus, if He brings you to it, He'll get you through it, right?
I'm on to bigger and better things (though I'm not sure what it is yet). I can take the skills that I learned over the past two years and really do anything I want. So while change is scary, it's also exciting and full of hope and promise.
I'm using this time off to do some major soul searching. I just moved back home, I have no bills, I can shop out of my sister's closets, life is still good. At this point in my life, I have the luxury to be picky.

I realize this whole post had nothing to do with the outfit in the pictures, but isn't it so cute! These are my sisters pants and I actually had to roll them under because they were way too long on me! #shortpeopleprobs
P.S. If you have any great resume writing resources feel free to email me--I feel like it's been a lifetime since I've written one and mine could use a little freshening up!

Change is scary, but things will work out. Sounds like you have a good support system. Good luck!

I'm sorry to hear about the layoff - but sometimes it takes something like that to happen for you to really land where you should be. Good luck with everything!
ReplyDeleteGirl, I feel ya. I wasn't laid off but my position was only a summer spot so come Sept I've been out of work (living off on my own in a city far from home) so I get the anxiety that comes with it. All you can do is trust in the Lord to lead you where you need to go and do your part to get there. You got this girl!
ReplyDeleteAh, so sorry to hear about the job!! Look on the bright side though. This leaves room for something bigger and better. Don't settle until you find it! Love that outfit too, by the way.
ReplyDeleteChange is crazy scary but, you are so right...if He brings you to it, He'll also bring you through it...often to things that can change life in the best of ways!
ReplyDeleteReally pretty look! Love the pants!!

Okay, we are totally in the same place in life right now. I was told my freelance position was no longer in the budget right after labor day and I had a MELTDOWN. I was so so so upset at first but like you I've been able to see the positive. Luckily I have a few small freelance jobs I was able to fall back on for food/gas money and for once in my life I've had the luxury to be a little picky. I've gone on quite a few interviews and actually turned down a few jobs because I want something that fits me well. I've never felt like I could even say no to a job offer in the past! I'm sending positive energy your way and totally cheering for you to come out ahead and find something even better for you. Love this look by the way!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your job! At least you're at home and you don't have to worry about bills! Develop your skills even further and move forward to greener pastures :)

ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about the job :( but you're so right - that means bigger and better things are ahead!
ReplyDeleteI'm really sorry Allison. I have been there before and it hurts and it sucks. Thank god you are so positive because having a good outlook on life is a must. I know you'll do great things and this might just be a huge blessing in disguise. You've been killing it with the posts and it'll all work out!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your job, but I think you'll be great. I'm cheering for you, as I'm sure all of you readers are. Maybe blogging full-time?

ReplyDeleteSorry about the stress that comes with job loss. Difficult... but glad to see you are in the frame of mind that "better things are to come". I also love your cute outfit pics!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear about your job but you'll be ok. Know how I know that? Your attitude and perspective are amazing and that will get you through this.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you lost your job, that is never fun, even if it in the end will be what you need. So happy you're looking at it positively!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that! You will get through this, I promise. He is leading you only to something better than you could ever imagine. Keep your head up!

I'm so sorry to hear about your job. Being someone who is dying to leave their place of employment right now but is having a hard time saying bye, I completely understand this post. Your positive attitude and amazing outlook on life (and those amazing pants!) will get you through. Sending you all the good vibes I can muster <3

I am so sorry to hear about your job loss. You seem to have a positive outlook on your future and that's the best possible thing you can do. I struggled to find a job for four months after my internship ended so I hope you have good luck in the new job arena. I am rooting for you, Allison! <3

No worries, I'm jobless too and have felt the same way about supporting my dreams without an income at the moment. Your resume--I would try submitting it to resume experts on line for freee!! Very helpful.

First off, I love your outfit! You are absolutely beautiful. Second, I am so sorry to hear about your job. I know several people who have been laid off in the last year and it breaks my heart equally every time. I know there are better things out there for you, but that doesn't ease the pain of rejection or loss. I'm thrilled to hear how positive you are now and really am optimistic that you'll find something even better moving forward. I'll be praying for you, and let me know if there's anything at all that I can do for you!

So sorry to hear about your job. You have a great attitude about it though and you're right, you're in a great place to find an amazing new job for yourself. Plus I love the outfit :)
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about the job! Your perspective is great, though! And I love the outfit!
ReplyDeleteThose shoes are just too cute! I definitely need me a pair! They seem to go with everything.
ReplyDeleteI love your fashion posts. You're good at it too.
ReplyDeleteI am loving your pants! So cute!
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear about your job, but looking to the future and all of its possibilities is the best thing to do! Way to go, Allison!
ReplyDelete1 - Fall is my favorite season too.
ReplyDelete2 - I am so sorry to hear about your job! That's so awful, and I can't even imagine how you must be feeling right now. Kudos to you for being brave enough to write about it though. That's great that you decided to use this time to find yourself. That's really the best thing you can do. Learn more about yourself. Discover your passions. The possibilities are endless.
That really sucks, especially because you had no warning I'm sorry! But it's important to look on the bright side and see this as a blessing in disguise. Hopefully your next job will have a better commute, or be closer to Josh, or be something you're really passionate about; just a better overall position. If you ever need to vent about the job search process I'm always here; I feel like I've been looking for a new job since I graduated so I completely understand how much it can suck. And one tip, download the LinkedIn Job Search app, don't apply directly from it because it doesn't let you attach a cover letter that way, but use it to find jobs, save them, and then apply from your computer.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking as someone who has gotten laid off 3 times, I know how hard it is. It's horrible and feels awfully similar to a break up. File for unemployment and I'm sure you will get a new job soon!!
ReplyDeleteLosing my first job out of college in 2008 changed my life. It made me more frugal and wise with my money, it made me more grateful for my parents (I was living at home, like you, at the time), it made me value my true friendships (some toxic "friends" ditched me when they heard I had lost my job. Don't need them in my life anyway), and it led to meeting the love of my life. Things will turn up and you'll see. Just stay positive and keep your head up. Also, sign up for unemployment if you haven't already. It isn't much, but it does help.
