Let me preface this by saying: I go to the doctor A LOT. If I have bug bite that I even think looks fishy I'll go to the Urgent Care which has resulted in lots of money being spent and teasing from Josh. I'll admit I'm sort of a hypochondriac. So with that being said, I'm trying to beat this on my own and refusing to go to the doctor (for now).
Here are my favorite things to do to battle a cold/allergies/bad day (that don't include a trip to the Urgent Care)
1. Workout. I know this sounds counterintuitive (when you're sick all you want to do is sleep), but when Josh dragged my butt to the gym this weekend, for a brief hour or two, I could breathe and felt better. Plus, I felt productive and skinny, which is always a plus.
2. Take a bubble bath. Duh. There's not much that a hot bath (with bubbles) and a good book can't fix. Every time I'm feeling sick and/or blah I soak it off (lol so punny).
3. Watch a good movie. Or Netflix. Anything to take your mind off of things for a bit, right? Also, I'm in need of show suggestions!
4. Sleep. This should be included in every prescription. Most of the time, we get sick because our bodies are overworked causing our immune systems to be compromised.
5. Soup. Any and all forms of soup. I prefer chicken noodle OR the clear soup from sushi restaurants--always does the trick.
So, in order to kick this nasty allergies/cold hybrid I'll be doing all of the above and continuing my DayQuil/NyQuil rotation. Here's to getting lots of rest!
I also thought mine were allergies which it ended up getting a lot worse. I'm with you on that. Sleep, lots of fluids and soup.
ReplyDeleteIf you have little sicknesses like that a lot, have you thought about trying essential oils? I have a friend who sells a Young Living and she always gives us oils at the start of something like that and that stuff works miracles!!!
ReplyDeleteRight after you tweeted me earlier, I began to feel an itchy throat coming on and it hasn't stopped! I've been loading up on Vitamin C and my essential oils and keeping my fingers crossed! Hopefully there's nothing going around!
ReplyDeleteMy go to list when feeling that not quite right feeling, hope your 'allergies?' Get resolved soon!! :)) take care lady
ReplyDeleteThanks! So far feeling a bit better!
DeleteI'd be more like you, but I'm also not a fan of spending money - I think so far I've been good at deciding when to go to the doctor and when to ride it out. Hope you feel better soon - my house is heavily affected by allergies.. Yay!
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to add a Thank you! For linking up with us on Tuesday! :)
DeleteHave you ever considered using Essential Oils? I actually hate going to the dr. But I also hate being sick. But I've started using the DoTerra essential oils and I rarely have to go to the dr and rarely get sick. Let me know if you want to learn more about them, they are A-MAZING. Not to mention they are great for allergies. Don't worry I don't sale them so I'll make nothing off of this little sales pitch haha.
ReplyDeleteI have, but honestly I have no idea HOW to use them or WHAT to use them for!
DeleteHope that you feel better soon! Allergies AND colds have been hitting everyone hard here in Tennessee. Totally agree with the excercise thing. Sometime it makes you feel better to just get moving! (And sometimes followed by a glass of red wine.. Lol) I too have heard great things about essential oils! But haven't tried them yet.
ReplyDeleteNow the wine sounds like something I could seriously use right now haha
DeleteHope you feel better soon!! Sleep is always a good thing and recently I always just say sweat it out. Nothing like a good workout to kick somethings butt!!!
ReplyDeleteI prefer to sleep for 12 hours straight. I feel so much better after that. ;)
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better! You should pick up some vitamin C. That's my go-to when I feel the slightest bit of something coming on.
ReplyDeleteThe working out part is so true! I never want to workout but even just a walk on the treadmill or a long walk with my dog usually helps me feel better! Thanks for linking up with us!
ReplyDeleteAw, I hope you're feeling better by now! I just recently lost my Lush virginity and picked out a cute bath bomb, so I'm going to be indulging in my first bubble bath in years with it.
